Essentially, self-isolation means that you mustn’t leave your home. You shouldn’t go out to the shops for any reason, and you shouldn’t have any visitors to your house.
According to the NHS, you must self-isolate for seven days if you are displaying symptoms of coronavirus. However, if you live with somebody who is showing the symptoms - a temperature and a new, continuous cough - you must self-isolate for 14 days.
If you need to isolate because you live with somebody who is displaying symptoms of coronavirus, you'll be able to get an 'isolation note' to show your employer via the online NHS 111 service.
